学系简介

  中山大学历史学科在20世纪20年代即已创设,多位中国现代史学的奠基人,如陈寅恪、傅斯年、顾颉刚、岑仲勉、梁方仲、刘节、陈序经等都曾任教,奠定了学科深厚的学术根基。

  1998年,历史学获得了一级学科博士学位授权。2007年,中国古代史、中国近现代史获评选为国家重点学科。2011年根据教育部学科目录调整,历史学一级学科调整为中国史、世界史、考古学3个一级学科,我校同时获得3个一级学科博士学位授权。2013年中国史一级学科获评第九轮广东省重点学科攀峰学科,世界史一级学科获评第九轮广东省重点学科优势学科。

  历史学系(珠海)成立于2015年10月。根据中山大学建设世界一流大学的战略目标,珠海市提升其城市“软实力”,参与“一带一路”战略实施的需要,历史学系(珠海)将与历史学系(广州)形成错位发展、学科优势互补的格局。未来历史学系(珠海)学科布局的主要思路为:保持历史学各一级学科的完整性,同时侧重世界史一级学科,重点发展以“一带一路”为纽带的世界古代史、欧洲史、海洋史、环境史、科技史等研究方向,深化完善世界史学科体系。

  历史学系(珠海)教学具有国际化、多校联合、精英化三大特色。学系师资力量不断发展壮大,现已有教职工20余人。同时,本系也在努力探索具有新意的国际学术交流与合作方式。以充分开放的形式,吸引全世界的优秀学者来系研究、授课。实实在在推进世界古代史、埃及学、亚述学、欧洲史,希腊史、罗马史、英国史、法国史、德国史、日本史、阿拉伯史等地区国别史以及中外关系史、科技史、经济史等专门史的研究。现今已做初步尝试,在中山大学原有的教学资源上,同中国社会科学院、东北师范大学教学团队合作开课,与各高校优秀学者联合推出优质讲座,让学生在最优秀的团队下进行精英教育。

  历史学系(珠海)围绕中山大学“德才兼备、领袖气质、家国情怀”的人才培养目标,力图培养出具有扎实功底和全球史观的史学家、具有人文精神和实践能力的知识人、具有健全人格和社会责任感的建设者。在具体实践中,力求培养具有扎实的史学基础知识,通晓人类文明发展历程,熟练掌握英语和第二外语,了解拉丁语、古希腊语等至少一门欧洲古典语言的史学精英。在教授历史学专业基础课程和专业核心课程的基础上,根据学系自身特色开设专业特色课程,以保证学生的专与精。   
 

About the Department of History (Zhuhai)

The disciplines of History at Sun Yat-sen University were established as early as the 1920s. Many a founder of History disciplines in modern China, including Tschen Yin Koh, Fu Sinian, Gu Jiegang, Cen Zhongmian, Liang Fangzhong, Liu Jie, Chen Xujing, was once part of the faculty, where they left a rich academic heritage.

In 1998, The Department of History was authorized to offer first-grade doctorate degree by Ministry of Education. In 2007, Ancient Chinese History and Modern Chinese History were selected as the national key disciplines. In 2011, according to the adjustment of subject directory, History disciplines were rearranged as three first-grade disciplines: Chinese History, World History, and Archeology. In the same year, our university was authorized to offer doctorate degree of the above-mentioned first-grade disciplines. In 2013, the first-grade discipline of Chinese History was awarded as Provincial Key Discipline (Peak-Climbing Key Discipline), and the discipline of World History was awarded as Provincial Key Discipline (Preponderant Key Discipline). 

The Department of History (Zhuhai) was established in October 2015, as part of the strategic scheme to fully elevate Sun Yat-sen University to the status of an internationally top-tier university, enhance the soft power of Zhuhai City, and to support the implementation of the “The Belt and Road” policy. The Department of History (Zhuhai) and the Department of History (Guangzhou) will integrate complementary disciplines and lay out a new pattern of reciprocal development. The Department of History (Zhuhai) will continue to uphold the integrity of all the first-grade disciplines of History, while laying special emphasis on the first-grade discipline of World History, and focusing on the development of Ancient World History, European History, Maritime History, Environmental History, in relation to the policy of “The Belt and Road.”

Discipline Development

Geographical Advantages: Zhuhai, facing the South China Sea, is closely connected with Hong Kong and Macao and adjacent to Southeast Asia. The city is the key node of China’s “”The Belt and Road” strategy. Zhuhai also provides the most desirable environment for the first-grade discipline of World History. In the following years, the Department of History (Zhuhai) will develop the research areas of World History, Maritime History, Science and Technology History, and Regional and National History with a global perspective and forward-looking vision, and integrate our three first-grade disciplines  in an all-round manner.

National Strategy: Within the framework of “The Belt and Road” policy, the Department of History (Zhuhai) will strengthen the innovation of World History studies and fulfill the actual needs of Zhuhai city in cultural upgrading. By conducting targeted research on the nations and regions along the route of “the 21st century Maritime Silk Road”, we seek to deepen and perfect the discipline system of World History.

International Exchange: The Department of History (Zhuhai) at Sun Yat-sen University will strive to explore innovative methods of international academic exchanges and cooperation.The department, with all openness, welcomes outstanding scholars around the world to study and teach here. We will spare no efforts to advance the studies of Regional and National History, such as  Ancient World History,Egyptology, Assyriology, European History, Greek History, Roman History, History of Great Britain, French History, German History, Japanese History, History of the Arabs, as well as Specialized History including the History of Sino-Foreign Relations, Science and Technology History and Economic History.

Historiography
We strive to provide elites of historiography with a solid academic foundation and a thorough understanding of the process of human civilization. Meanwhile, we train them to be multilingual with a good command of English and second foreign language and a basic understanding of at least one European classical language such as Latin or ancient Greek.

To provide historians with solid academic foundation and global history perspective. We provide a complete and comprehensive fundamental education for the students, while putting emphasis on the study of World History and the recent discoveries of the cutting-edge studies. Through learning, students will master the fundamental knowledge of World History and Chinese History, and understand the overall process of human civilization. We also cultivate students’ linguistic competence: English, second foreign language, European classical languages such as Latin and ancient Greek are part of the curriculum.Students are expected to have an understanding of ancient civilizations, international politics, international relations, global economy, and other related topics. Based on their understanding of multiculturalism, students will be guided to form a historical perspective of global view. Our goal is to support the national policy of “The Belt and Road”, fulfill the actual needs of Zhuhai city in terms of cultural upgrading, and provide intellectuals for China’s foreign affairs and the studies of international issues.

To provide scholars with humanistic spirit and practical ability. The Department values both humanistic spirit and scientific literacy. In the course of learning from the great achievements of politics, economy, art and science of the world civilization, the students are instructed to study systematically, to think independently, to explore actively, to reason logically, and to research meticulously. At the same time, students can expand their experience through our wide range of practical curriculum. We foster problem-solving abilities in real practice.
